Children’s Ministry

Our Children’s Ministry is committed to “Growing Children in Christ.” We believe every child should have the opportunity to “grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

Children are important people and we recognize their need to be loved and nurtured in their faith. We know that visiting a new place may cause anxiety for some kids. With that in mind, we try our best to make every child feel right at home from the moment they arrive. Our hope is that coming to church will be something they will look forward to each week.

We pray that your child will experience the genuine care that our teachers feel for their students. We trust that they will discover how much fun learning about God’s word can be and our desire is to help them grow to love Jesus, to live like Jesus and to live for Jesus!

Weekly Video Update

Sunday Mornings

Each Sunday at 9:45 & 11:00 AM, the Children’s Ministry offers safe, fun, friend-filled classes where kids will learn relevant Bible stories that stimulate faith and impact their everyday lives.

  • Nursery — We want children to learn about God’s love at the earliest opportunity. We begin with lots of hugs for the babies and the sharing of simple Bible stories and songs about Jesus that toddlers enjoy!
  • Preschool — We engage children with exciting Bible stories and encourage them to be active participants in a variety of activities designed to teach them the tremendous truths about God, the Bible and Jesus.
  • Elementary — Children at this age are growing to possess a faith that is all their own. We encourage this growth with intriguing, in-depth Bible instruction that relates to real life situations. We also provide opportunities for children to express their faith through creative worship experiences.

If you have any questions about the Children’s Ministry, please contact Tom Sherrod or Cheryl LaFaber.

Keeping Kids Safe!

We take the security of the children in our care very seriously. We run a background check on every teacher and volunteer that serves in the Children’s Ministry and we require every child to be registered in our Checkpoint system.

What is Checkpoint?
Checkpoint is a computerized check-in system for those children attending our Sunday morning Bible classes. Checkpoint produces name badges/security tags for each individual child who attends a class. Name badges/security tags are coded with numbers and are used during the check-in and check-out process to match child and parent. In addition, Checkpoint assigns each child to the appropriate class and prints that information on the child’s name badge along with any allergies, special needs or concerns.

Parents, please stop by the Checkpoint Station at the entrance to the Education Wing and we will create a name badge for your child and assign them to the appropriate class. From there we can direct you to that class or answer any questions that you may have.

Checkpoint Forms
Are you new to our church? Have you recently moved or had a change to your family? If so, then you may need to fill out a Checkpoint form. Forms are available at the Checkpoint Desk at the entrance to the Education Wing or you may download one of the forms listed below to print and complete at home.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is our largest event and our most fun, VBS is a week dedicated to teaching God’s Word to each child through Bible lessons, music, drama, crafts and games. Held during July, this event is an interactive and action-packed experience. It’s an awesome time when hundreds of children, teens and adults laugh and play, sing and pray, learn and grow together… and, it’s totally free!

Due to the COVID pandemic, we are revisiting our approach to Vacation Bible School this year. Because the health and safety of your children is very important to us, you can expect a very different VBS this year than what you may have seen in years past. Specifics are still being ironed out, but details about what VBS 2020 will look like will be posted soon! Please keep an eye on the ExploreVBS website for regular updates.

Seasonal Events

Following a fantastic breakfast, children gather around the manger for a re-telling of the Christmas Story in early December.

Families with children celebrate the wonder and excitement of Christmas together! The program will feature our Preschool Cherub Choir (age 3 to Kindergarten) and our Elementary Kids Choir singing your favorite Christmas Carols! The Youth Band will also perform.

Following the program we will gather in the Family Life Center for a time of fun with crafts, cookie decorating and an opportunity to participate in a service project that would bring some Christmas cheer to our friends who are unable to attend.

Join us for our annual Nativity Petting Zoo on Christmas Eve! We will have camels, llamas, donkeys and various other animals in the Family Life Center from 3:30 to 8:30 PM on December 24. The Nativity Petting Zoo is a long-time family favorite so be sure to stop by to say hello!

Cold winter days often don’t provide much opportunity to run around and play. No one likes to see their son or daughter with a bad case of the “winter blahs!” To remedy this, we offer a Friday night of fun with flashlight tag held in the church in late January. The event is divided by age-group over three separate nights — 1st-3rd graders, 4th-6th graders and K’s & 5’s.

Check the church calendar for dates.

Younger children are invited to come out on the Saturday before Easter to hunt thousands of plastic, candy-filled eggs in the great outdoors! As always, please dress for the weather.

Please check the church calendar for dates/details.
