Hunger Bowl

Every year on Super Bowl Sunday, we partner with Lifeline Christian Mission to pack 100,000 meals to send to poverty stricken school children in Grand Goave, Haiti. We call this church-wide event, ‘Hunger Bowl.’

These shelf-stable meals are loaded with nutrition packed by hundreds of volunteers and then loaded onto pallets to be immediately shipped. Upon arrival they are distributed to children in need and they help to make a major impact in the daily fight against malnutrition.

Our Goal

Our goal is to pack 20,000 meals in four separate one hour sessions in the Family Life Center. To do this we need 108 volunteers per hour on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday (usually the first Sunday in February). That’s over 400 volunteers that are needed.

What to expect

The work is fairly simple and easy, making it a great service opportunity for Elementary-age children, teenagers and/or adults.

Meal packing times are 8:30 to 9:30 AM, 9:45 to 10:45 AM, 11:00 AM to Noon and 12:15 to 1:15 PM. Our most popular meal pack times are 9:45 and 11:00 PM, so if you want to participate then you will need to register early.

PLEASE NOTE: Childcare for young children will not be offered during the 8:30 AM or 12:15 PM meal pack time.

Registration is divided into four time slots — 8:30 AM, 9:45 AM, 11:00 AM and 12:15 PM.

Each time slot is divided into stations — black, yellow, green, red, blue, orange, gray and purple — and each station needs a total of 16 volunteers each.

When you register, you must first select the time slot you want, and then select which station you wish to join. There will be a drop down menu for each time slot that will allow you to choose which station you want. When a specific station becomes full, it will no longer be listed as an option under its specific time slot, so you will need to pick an alternate station.


Registration will run from December 1 to January 31.

If the station you would like to register for is no longer an option in the drop down menu it is because that station is full. If you have any trouble registering, or need more information, please contact Alison Morrow.
