1 & 2 Peter were written to Christians who were “on the run.” Exiles, basically.

When the Apostle Peter wrote the letters, the world was a very hostile place for Christians. The Roman Emperor, Nero, blamed the burning of Rome on Christians and therefore they became the number one enemy of the state.

Even though Christians were being arrested and put to death, Peter encourages them to remain strong in their faith and hold on to their hope. The hope that can only come through our relationship with Jesus Christ!
