According to a poll by the Barna Group (conducted in 2009), about 35% of all Christians in America believe that the Devil is real. The rest either deny or doubt the existence of the Devil, or Satan, as a “living being.” Forty percent view him as little more than a “symbol of evil.” This should cause one to wonder just who Jesus was talking to during the forty days he spent being tempted in the desert if he is nothing more than a symbol.
The Bible mentions Satan several times, both in the Old and New Testaments. He is known as the Adversary, the Accuser, the Prince of Demons, the Father of Lies, the Enemy, the Evil One and the Dragon. Perhaps the one name that Christian’s should think of him as (and the name that best describes him) is, ‘The Defeated.’ (John 10:10, Romans 5:6-8, Colossians 2:15, 1 Peter 5:8)
In today’s sermon, Jay goes over the three primary lessons we can take away from the Bible regarding the Devil:
- He is REAL
- He is REAL NASTY
- He is REALLY DEFEATED
Sermon preached on March 31, 2019.
