Mary Magdalene

The gift Jesus gave Mary Magdalene was to free her from seven tormenting demons, restoring her completely. From that point on, she believed who he claimed to be and followed him. She was at the crucifixion the day he died and the first to see the empty tomb. She was also the first to see and speak with the resurrected Jesus.

Jesus offers all of us a similar gift — the gift to free us from sin through forgiveness and grace. Are you ready to accept that gift?

Digging Deeper

Want to get a little deeper into the study? Below are some questions and thoughts to consider based on the sermon message. Feel free to work through them on your own, as a family or in your small group. (Discussion questions for elementary-age kids can be found below.) If you have questions, please contact us.

Discussion Questions:

  • Why do you think Mary was outside of the tomb of Jesus? Reflect on the past few days of Mary’s life. Where has she been and what has she seen? (John 19:25)
  • How would you describe Mary’s devotion to Jesus? (Luke 8:2 tells us about what Jesus did for Mary.)
  • Could you imagine standing at the foot of the cross watching Jesus be crucified? What type of emotions does that stir up in you?
  • Where are the angels in the tomb and what do they ask Mary? What is significant about this interaction?
  • How did Jesus get Mary’s attention? Why is this call special?
YOUR CALL TO ACTION:
  • Imagine you were at the empty tomb and Jesus called you by name. How are you now going to live in response?
