The Confession of the Messiah

The environment has a lot to say about the importance of what you are about to speak.

  • Who do people say the Son of Man is?
  • Who do YOU say the Son of Man is?

No one can shake the foundation that Jesus is truly the Messiah. We have a God who loves us and a God who is for us.

Digging Deeper

Want to get a little deeper into the study? Below are some questions and thoughts to consider based on the sermon message. Feel free to work through them on your own, as a family or in your small group. (Discussion questions for elementary-age kids can be found below.) If you have questions, please contact us.

Discussion Questions:

  • Describe the context of the scene in chapter 16. What are the Pharisees now asking of Jesus? Where does Jesus take the disciples and why does he change the scenery?
  • Why did Jesus ask the disciples the first question in verse 13? What do you think about the initial response of the disciples?
  • What is the significance of verse 15? What are the implications of this specific question?
  • How would you describe Peter’s answer? What is the significance of Jesus being the Messiah? How would you describe Jesus’ response to Peter?
  • What is your response to Jesus’ words, “on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it”?
YOUR CALL TO ACTION:
  • Articulate an answer to the question Jesus asked of his disciples, “Who do you say I am?” Write down your answer and then think about what this answer means to your life and the way you live.
