The Great Commission

Do we believe that Jesus was the Son of God, who died on the cross, so we could be forgiven, and defeated death once and for all so that we can have life, both now and forevermore?

How do you doubt?

  • Jesus claims ALL authority!
  • GO! Make disciples of all nations
  • Teach them to obey the teachings of Jesus
  • I am with you always!

Digging Deeper

Want to get a little deeper into the study? Below are some questions and thoughts to consider based on the sermon message. Feel free to work through them on your own, as a family or in your small group. (Discussion questions for elementary-age kids can be found below.) If you have questions, please contact us.

Discussion Questions:

  • At the beginning of this passage, it tells us that the disciples were obedient and went to the mountain where Jesus told them to do. When they saw Jesus, they worshipped Him, but some doubted. How could they doubt while seeing Jesus in bodily form? What were they doubting? How could they worship Him and still have doubt?
  • What does Jesus mean when he says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me . . .?”
  • What does it mean to be commissioned? How does this commission apply to believers today?
  • Jesus told them, “And surely I am with you until the very end of the age.” Reflecting on the entirety of the book of Matthew, why would Matthew end his book this way? What does this ending mean to us as readers of the gospel?
  • Put yourself into the text. You are on the mountainside with Jesus receiving this commission. What is your next move? What do you feel compelled to do?
YOUR CALL TO ACTION:
  • At WCC, we often ask the question, “Who is your one?” How does this question align with the Great Commission? How are you living out the Great Commission by reaching your one?
