Digging Deeper

Want to get a little deeper into the study? Below are some questions and thoughts to consider based on the sermon message. Feel free to work through them on your own, as a family or in your small group. (Discussion questions for elementary-age kids can be found below.) If you have questions, please contact us.

Discussion Questions:

  • Who was Jesus speaking to in this passage? Why do you think Jesus emphasizes His second coming with a few days left in His life?
  • According to verses 30-31, what will happen upon Jesus’ second coming? For further discussion, read Acts 1:9-11. What are the similarities between Jesus’ ascension and His second coming?
  • As a follower of Jesus, what does the second coming mean? How should it make you feel? Why do you think we sometimes neglect to ponder the second coming of Jesus?
  • Think about the events surrounding the birth of Jesus. What made them so special? Now consider His second coming. What are the differences between the two? For further discussion, read Philippians 2:5-11. What is the contrast to the way this passage begins and the way that it ends?
  • Read John 14:1-4. As we wait upon Jesus’ arrival, what is He doing during this time? What excites you about this realization?
  • What is the second coming ultimately to accomplish?
YOUR CALL TO ACTION:
  • This week reflect on the reality of Jesus’ second coming. After a time of reflection, what spiritual step do you feel called to take?
