Why Nazareth?

It matters where we come from. Where Jesus came from was important to his story just as it is important in our story.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem, took a detour to Egypt and raised in the tiny town of Nazareth. He was born in a manger, raised as a craftsman, led as a Rabbi, crucified like a criminal, resurrected as a victor and ascended as King of Kings and Lord of Lords — he is Jesus of Nazareth!

Digging Deeper

Want to get a little deeper into the study? Below are some questions and thoughts to consider based on the sermon message. Feel free to work through them on your own, as a family or in your small group. (Discussion questions for elementary-age kids can be found below.) If you have questions, please contact us.

Discussion Questions:

  • Where did you grow up and how does that play a role in the person you are today?
  • In the birth events, how many times did an angel appear to Joseph? How does Joseph respond in each of these encounters? Which encounter do you think would be the hardest for Joseph?
  • Reflecting over the past few weeks of our study and thinking about the future events in Jesus’ life, what role did Bethlehem play in Jesus’ life? What about the role of Nazareth?
  • Reflecting on all of the events surrounding the birth of Jesus, which event resonates or impacts you the most?
YOUR CALL TO ACTION:
  • Joseph responds faithfully to the angel’s instruction to move. Do you feel God guiding you in any particular way? What is the hardest part about responding faithfully to God’s leading?
