Project Description

Samuel and Eli’s Wicked Sons

God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

Pride draws lines, but humility builds bridges!

Sermon preached on September 13, 2020.

QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER:
  • When have you prayed for God to grant you what was on your heart? Describe the emotions you felt.
  • What stands out to you in both of Hannah’s prayers? What seemingly impossible need in your life do you need to passionately pray about?
  • How did Eli respond to his sons’  actions?  What was the message from God to Eli?
  • How would you describe Samuel at this point?  Why are we given a glimpse of Samuel in the midst of the sons’ fall?
YOUR CALL TO ACTION:
  • Where in my life do I need to live more humbly?
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS FOR KIDS
  • Have you ever wanted something so badly that you became upset when you didn’t get it? What did you want but not get? How did you resolve your problem?
  • Did you know that many mothers pray for their children before their children are born? Ask your mom if she did this for you. Ask her what she prayed. Ask if she prays for you now. Read 1 Samuel 1:1-20. Hannah asked God to give her a child. She promised to give him back to God. Was anything in Hannah’s prayer like your mother’s prayers for you?
  • What was Eli’s sin? (1 Samuel 2:12-17) Compare Eli’s sons with Samuel’s actions (1 Samuel 2:18-21)
  • How old was Samuel when God called him? (1 Samuel 3) How can you serve God, even at your young age? Describe three ways.
