We either allow Jesus to forgive our sin, or we will be separated from him for all eternity.

Digging Deeper

Want to get a little deeper into the study? Below are some questions and thoughts to consider based on the sermon message. Feel free to work through them on your own, as a family or in your small group. (Discussion questions for elementary-age kids can be found below.) If you have questions, please contact us.

Discussion Questions:

  • What did David do wrong? Why was he conscience-stricken?
  • David neglected Joab’s advice. How do you usually respond to advice? What measures do you take to determine how you will respond?
  • What is a threshing floor? What is significant about the location of this threshing floor? Read 1 Chronicles 22:1 (note this same event is recorded in 1 Chronicles 21).
  • Why is David offering a sacrifice for the Israelites? Is this normal for a king or is David taking on a different role?
  • Read Matthew 3:11-12. According to these verses, what is part of Jesus’ role? How does this reflection cause us to follow Jesus more closely?
