Youth Ministry

Each year we publish a calendar full of events. The events consist of summer camps, service projects, life group meeting dates, parent ministry dates, and other fun events.

We communicate with parents through the website, social media, bulletin, texting service, and emails. You can follow us on Facebook or Instagram by searching for “wccyouthministry.” We post pictures of past events, lesson content, and advertise future events through these social media apps.

You can also subscribe to our texting service by texting “wccyouthministry” to 95577 to receive last minute reminders directly to your phone.

Will Ellis is our Youth Minister and is the source of all of our youth ministry communication. To make sure that you are on all of our communication sources please feel free to send him an email.

We love to expose our students to a variety of service projects both domestic and international. We make an annual mission trip to Honduras, regularly volunteer at the Friends Ministry to serve the homeless and attend the Christ-in-Youth conferences for Middle School and High School students. Please see our event calendar (below) for more information about what we do.

High School Mission Trip to Honduras

Every summer, our High School students go on a week-long mission trip with Lifeline Christian Mission to Honduras. During this trip students will work with two Honduran High Schools in Gonzales and Ocotillo, visit a girl’s orphanage in Omoa, teach & organize a High School camp and do various work projects as necessary. The kids (and the adult sponsors who travel with us) will have a week filled with hard work and uplifting worship. They will return home with important spiritual lessons and an amazing experience they will remember for the rest of their lives!

We have a limited number of spots available for this trip and rosters fill up each fall, so any students who wish to go are required to be regular participants in our Sunday morning and evening youth group activities. If your son or daughter is interested in going, please contact Will Ellis for more information.

Christ-in-Youth: MOVE

MOVE is a five-day High School camp designed to amplify the call of Christ on students’ lives to become kingdom workers. Students at MOVE not only learn and worship together – they spend quality time with their church youth groups, discovering ways that God will use them to impact the world. MOVE is committed to helping High School students take their mountaintop experiences beyond the event by challenging them to become Kingdom workers.

This year, High School students (which includes current 8th graders to current HS Seniors) will head down to Cleveland, TN on Monday, July 15 and return on Saturday, July 20. The theme is “To Be Continued” and we will take a hard look at the life of Elijah. The cost is $250/student (a $50 non-refundable deposit is due by Sunday, June 10).

Questions? Please contact Will Ellis. For more information about MOVE, please visit their website.

Friends Ministry

Twice a year we take a group of middle school and high school students downtown to the Friends Ministry to serve a meal to the less fortunate here in our own city. Students love to participate in this event and always talk about how the visit impacted their life and worldview. While there, students do a variety of things from serving food from the kitchen, collecting dinner tickets, sorting clothes, doing dishes, serving drinks, serving food to the table, and praying with friends ministry members.

Our next trip to the Friends Ministry is Saturday, October 19. If you would like to join us, sign-up today!

Life Groups

Life Groups are student groups that are gender and grade specific. The groups exist to connect students to Jesus, grow them together in community, and send them on mission to impact their schools. Students are led by growing, Godly Christian adults who love students. Life Groups meet on Sunday nights from 6:00-8:00 PM. Life Groups kickoff in the youth café with food and games. Our group leaders use a video driven format to lead each week’s discussion. The videos used for our group curriculum is found on our Vimeo page.

Our High School Life Groups meet every Sunday night during the school year and are led by the following:

  • Freshman Boys: Lance Fannin, Christopher Egolf
  • Freshman Girls: Alyssa Dearth, Stephanie Jenkins
  • Sophomore Boys: Dave Remaklus, Charlie Cox
  • Sophomore Girls: Chelsea Dearth
  • Junior Boys: Alex Thompson, Scott Ebright, Andrew Chaffin
  • Junior Girls: Jessica Spain, Patti Remaklus

Middle School

Our “big event” for Middle School students is our annual trip to attend the Christ in Youth Conference called Believe. Believe is a high-energy weekend that is packed with powerful worship and teaching from God’s Word. Students will not only worship together but also engage in life-challenging discussions with their peers and adult leaders. They discover ways in which God is calling them to be Kingdom workers in their schools, communities, and the world.

Believe is one of the safest and most well-organized events for students in the country! We take our group to the Believe conference held at Northern Kentucky University and stay in a hotel in the Cincinnati area. The Friday-Saturday event takes place every February. The 2019 Believe conference was February 15-16 in Highland Heights, KY. Next February we hope to return for the 2020 Believe conference. We’ll post details about that trip as the information becomes available.

The cost for the 2019 Believe conference was $75 with $25 due at the time of registration. Please visit the CIY Believe website or contact Patti Remaklus for more info.

“Got Wells?” Water Well Project

Each year our Middle School students participate in a “Got Wells?” Water Wells Project. The goal of the project is to raise money for people in countries without adequate drinking water. The two countries we have supported through this project is Ethiopia and Myanmar. The money goes directly to the WCC missionaries in these countries and they organize the building of the wells.

Since 2013 our Middle School students have raised over $40,000! At the end of the project the students meet at Highbanks Metro Park and hike six miles carrying a gallon of water to represent those their same age doing the same for water in other countries.

High School

Each summer we take our High School students to the Christ in Youth Conference called Move. Move is a week-long camp held on college campuses all summer long and is geared towards helping high school students grow in their relationship with Jesus. Students spend the week hearing worship and teaching applicable to their age, encouraging one another in small groups, participating in afternoon activities, going whitewater rafting, and creating lasting memories and friendships. Every time we leave Move our students come back energized and ready to respond to God’s call on their life to become Kingdom Workers.

The cost is $200/student with a $50 deposit due upon registration. Register online through Realm today!
